New Apostolic Church
Photography in divine service
◼ Foreword ↑
It’s a given, but it certainly has its snags: in the visual world of the twenty-first century, interacting and communicating by sharing photos does not stop at the church door. But this does have its pitfalls.
Why do we share photos of our congregations in the first place? Because photos tell stories. They deepen our personal memories and convey factual information. They showcase our Christian life and thereby support the mission of the Church.
Serving this goal is not easy. Especially photography in a worship scenario comes with high demands: joy, sorrow, silence, warmth… pressing the button at the right moment, that alone is difficult enough. All the more so because the sanctity of the moment must not be disturbed.
The author of this website has been mastering this balancing act for more than two decades: Oliver Rütten has taken thousands of photos in a church environment, has trained hundreds of photographers, and shared his knowledge with many while working as an editor for nac.today. His reservoir of experience can now be tapped into on this website.
This includes dos and don’ts, brings clarity, and helps photographers in divine services to be on the safe side legally. The website offers hands-on guidance from organisational aspects to the art of photography to legal issues governing the use of photographs.
By publishing this guide, the Church would like to say thanks to the many volunteers who put a lot of enthusiasm and commitment into showcasing the life of our congregations.
Wishing you favourable lighting at all times, passion in your search for the right motif, and above all, spectacular divine services.
